I love painting faces; someday I hope to add
the body to my work
For years I used whatever scraps of paper were available to doddle on during editorial meetings, conferences (zoom and front row seats) AND even symphonies…if the lights weren’t too low and the person seated next to me wasn’t spying on me.
Doodling helps me think and stay engaged. It is my version of today’s fidget sensory toys. After more than 3 decades as a journalist for B2B magazines, I switched artistic mediums and discovered I had the same passion for painting as I did for writing a story about a trade mission to China or an entrepreneur starting a business. I am always drawn to the human element in a story or when admiring art in museums.
As a writer I love hearing people’s back stories, what makes their faces light up …
so I suppose it’s only natural that t I love to paint faces. My faces aren’t realistic, they’re what I see, sometimes abstracted to be more color than defined features. And sometimes reduced to one dimensional works or clay. My art is mostly acrylic and hand-painted paper collages. With some manipulating, my pallet paper ends up being the embellishment on faces or bodies or whimsical shapes.
